Please feel free to ask your question without concern. We are also here to answer your question if you need. There is also a "Garmin Forums" option under the help menu which is a great resource for information. This is basically a general user’s guide and as such will not have some of the more technical or “one off” type of information. The help file is the most extensive source available for BaseCamp. The can be manually deleted from the GPX folder on the device if necessarily. The files are very small and will not take up a significant amount of space. When removing the files they are removed from the current.gpx but are still in the imported file. They are then saved under the current.gpx file in that same folder. The files are in kind of a limbo until imported to the device. The files are stored as GPX files in the GPX folder found on the device. This information will go directly to our team to improve products. We encourage our customer to submit ideas to our ideas page at Garmin | Share Ideas. We are constantly however improving our products and software. The BaseCamp program can only send routes to the device. When the device is removed and reinserted, the information is repopulated with the device information. This is used for people that have a lot of information they are dealing with and want to remove some of that information to declutter their session. Deleting form the device using BaseCamp will only remove the item from the BaseCamp GUI for the duration of that device connection. I would be happy to elaborate further on my previous email.įirst, you are correct. Thank you for contacting Garmin International. But is there documentation that explains the kinds of things you have helped me understand in your email?
EXPERT GPS DELETE A WAYPOINT FROM MAP MANUAL
Lastly, about a User's Manual - I understand there are video tutorials and a Help menu (which seems to simply tell me where to find a menu item in the GUI, not what it does). I have never understood the Import feature before - if I understand you it is a "hidden" repository of all waypoints and routes transferred from BaseCamp, allowing you to move them back to the "visible" list at some point in the future, is that right? That's a very nice capability but isn't there a risk of eventually using up a lot of memory for unwanted data, or is there some way to delete it? If I understand correctly there is no way to delete data from the device using the BaseCamp GUI, am I right? Such a capability would be a very nice feature, as multiple button pushes on the device are much more tedious than selections with a mouse in BaseCamp - perhaps you could as this as a request on your new feature list. Your first sentence was "Anything deleted from the device using BaseCamp will only remove the entry from the BaseCamp list." Does this mean that no actual data is deleted in this case - the names are simply removed from the list in the BaseCamp GUI? It's not clear to me what the point of that would be as removing names without removing any referenced data seems confusing, especially since the names will come back the next time you connect the device can you clarify? I think I understand but I would like to ask a couple questions to be sure. Here is my latest exchange with Joshua at Garmin Support:įirst, my questions in response to his prior email: Your posts were certainly helpful, especially the last one. I hope someone comes in, pushes me aside and gives you a more clear way of answering your question. I'm really sorry for this confusing explanation.

If you select one or more of those and create a Custom Route, those will still show up and have to be deleted from the commands of the Nav IV. If you're still with me on this, those are the files that get deleted though a computer. There's some kind of Data icon you select on the screen that shows up after you select "Where To?" Selecting that Data icon you then will see your list of routes you've created in Basecamp. It can do it automatically or you can manually select the created route. The Nav IV can then take that information and create a custom route. Anyway, when you create a route from Basecamp and load it into the NavIV it's stored in an imported data section. I now see I should have let someone else help on this. I'm at a big disadvantage here to answer your other question as I don't have my Nav IV system on hand to see the wording that is used. My explanation was connecting the Nav IV to a computer to delete files. I don't believe you have much access to the Nav IV through Basecamp. Click to expand.First I want to apologize for not being careful in my reading in that you wanted to use Basecamp to do the deleting.
